From December 17, 2015 to March 27, 2016 at the Naval Museum (Madrid) you can visit the exhibition entitled "Masters of the Sea Lords of the World. History of the Spanish Nautical Charting ".
It is a sample of the Spanish contribution to the discovery and geographical knowledge of the planet, through its nautical charting, along the eight centuries from the first Mediterranean Sea portolan charts to modern electronic charts.
The origins of the maps, its development, its evolution and its value are described. Jose Maria Moreno Martin, curator of the exhibition, remember there was a time when "the maps were instruments of decision and power" The 106 pieces in the exhibition are distributed among nine thematic areas, corresponding to the stages in which has divided the history of the Spanish nautical charting.
Guided tours on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays are offered at 11:30.
