MARIA CARME MONTANER I GARCÍA

Berna Montaner

Vic, Osona, 1958. Head of the Map Library of the Cartographic Institute of Catalonia since 2001. Doctor in Geography at the University of Barcelona, with a thesis on the history of topographical cartography in modern Catalonia. She has conducted two overseas research periods in Copenhagen (1989) and Paris (1991). She has been president of the Association of Professional Geographers of Catalonia (1993-1994), and at present forms part of the Governing Body of the Catalonian Geographical Society. She formed part of the Organising Committee of the Second Catalan Congress of Geography devoted to the “Map as geographical language” (2008). She has specialised in the field of map catalogation, an area in which she has organised and participated in various national and international congresses. She is a founding member of the Association of Hispano-Portuguese Public Map Libraries, and the Spanish delegate in the map librarian group of LIBER (Ligue Europeénne de Bibliothèques de Recherche). She has organised and commissaried various cartographical exhibitions. She is a member of the editorial board of the international digital magazine e-perimetron and of the journal Treballs de la Societat Catalana de Geografia.
