The Department of Geodynamics and Geophysics of the University of Barcelona is located on the second and third floors of the Faculty of Geology, at Martí i Franqués s/n in Barcelona.

Situation map

The current department was set up in 1997 as a result of the reorganization of the former department of Dynamic Geology, Geophysics and Palaeontology. This is a multi-faculty department related to the faculties of:

The aims of the Department of Geodynamics and Geophysics are twofold: to teach students and undertake research into:

  • Geodynamics
  • Geophysics

With special emphasis on:

  • Structures resulting from deformation in sedimentary basins and their role in evaluating Geological Resources.
  • Geological processes which modify the shape of the Earth's surface and their role in Natural Hazards.
  • Geophysical methods for studying the subsoil and the inner Earth, modelling and data inversion.
