Academic year 2012-13

POSSIBLE CHANGES TO THE STRUCTURE OF MASTER’S DEGREES

As part of the university-wide adaptation of university master’s degrees to new governmental regulations on the criteria for the planning and organization of master’s degree studies, plans have been made to restructure the current university master’s degrees in Geology (UB-UAB) and Geophysics (UB-URL) for the academic year 2012-13, as shown below:

While the primary aim is to adapt the two degree courses to the new regulations, the restructuring is also intended to more closely tailor the content to the needs and expectations of wider society and in response to the feedback received from students who have already completed the current master’s degrees in Geology and Geophysics. The objectives, target students and general content of the new master’s degrees are broadly similar to those of the existing programs, but significant changes are made to the planning and organization of learning activities for the subjects listed in the section “New master’s degree proposal” on this page.

The introduction of the restructured degrees for the academic year 2012-13 remains subject to approval by the Ministry of Education and Science, notification of which should be received during the spring. Since no official response has been received at the time this information was written, students interested in enrolling are advised that there are two possible scenarios for the academic year 2012-13:

  1. The existing master’s degrees in Geology will continue to be offered.
  2. The existing program will be discontinued and the new master’s degrees in Mineral Resources and Geological Risks, and Reservoir Geology and Geophysics, will be introduced.

Pending further information, students are advised that preregistration for the academic year 2012-13 should be carried out following the procedures in place for the university master’s degree in Geology. If the planned structural changes are approved, preregistration will automatically be validated for the new master’s degrees as shown below:
