The Solar Energy Group (2009 SGR 1532)
of the University of Barcelona is mainly focused in the
developement of new technologies for photovoltaic modules
based on silicon thin films. These include modules based
on p-i-n structures of amorphous and microcrystalline
silicon and on heterojunction silicon solar cells.
The group is working in the developement of hot-wire
chemical vapor deposition (HWCVD) for the silicon-based
materials. Activities in the field of transparent conducting
oxides and light confinement strategies for using in thin
film silicon solar cells are also being carried out.
Finally, the group carries out the monitoring of the
parameters of photovoltaic modules under real conditions,
and other parameters such as irradiance or temperature,
with the aim to elaborate realistic models for thin film
silicon modules that could be useful for the design of
photovoltaic systems.
