The Solar Energy Group (2005SGR00475) of the University of Barcelona has two main lines of research activity: The development of photovoltaic materials and devices and the development of strategies for the rational use of energy and renewable energy source applications in buildings.
The first line of research has developed prototype thin-film (1 cm2 ) silicon solar cells on glass or flexible, metal or plastic, substrates. The group has developed in-house thin-film silicon technology for hot-wire, chemical, vapour phase, catalytic deposition (HWCVD). Some of this cell development technology is ready for transfer to industrial production. In collaboration with the Semiconductor Devices Group of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), the group has also developed silicon solar cells with a heterojunction of a thin-film deposited using HWCVD and organic solar cells.
In the second line of activities, the group collaborates with private companies and public organisations in the application of rational use of energy criteria and renewable energy sources in buildings. |
