 Research activity

This group carries out spectroscopic studies in order to develop new analytic methods for the determination of pollutants in environmental and biological samples. We study a wide group of compounds: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, metallic species, inorganic anions and antibiotics.
The analytic measurements are based both in fluorimetric (intrinsic or with derivative fluorogenic reactives) and in UV-vis spectroscopic techniques. Methods developped in this way are mainly applied to post-column detection in liquid chromatography or in flow-injection systems. On the other hand, chemometric procedures, for the resolution of complex mixtures without any previous separation, are appplied
Handling and samples pre-treatment (extraction, preconcentration and clean-up systems) are also studied.
