This past academic year 2018-19, University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Philology held a masterclass given by Pere Claveria from the Terrassa Film Office, the organism that manages the Audiovisual Park of Catalonia and is in charge of processing filming permits in public spaces. During the class, which was addressed to the students of the Degree in Communication and Cultural Industries, Claveria reviewed the Film Office’s tasks, and gave some advice for finding locations for audiovisual productions.

About the duties of the Terrassa Film Office, he emphasized its will to connect the production companies with the departments that manage municipal spaces, so that communication becomes much more fluid and procedures are dealt with much easier. Claveria reminded the students the obligation to ask for permission any time they want to shoot in a public space, and highlighted the fact that the city council of Terrassa is interested in attracting audiovisual productions to the city, since they can be a way of promoting the territory. He also explained that, although usually the processing of shooting permits involves a fee payment, in many cases students are exempt from it.

The last part of the class was dedicated to answer questions from the students, who were preparing their short films for the subject “The process of audiovisual production”. Pere Claveria explained, among other things, how to shoot in a cemetery, under what conditions you can paint graffiti on a wall, and which are the best options when you want to shoot a scene on a road.
