University of British Columbia

I was born in Barcelona in 1977. I obtained both “Llicenciatura” (BA) in 1999 and “DEA” (Research MA) in 2002 (under the supervision of Manuel García-Carpintero) at the University of Barcelona. In 2003, I got a “la Caixa” award to pursue graduate studies in Canada. Since 2004, I am a PhD student at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada). I work with Ori Simchen, Jeff Pelletier, and Dom Lopes at UBC, but also with Manuel García-Carpintero and Genoveva Martí at LOGOS.

Research and Interests

My primary research is on propositional attitudes, their ascriptions, and fiction (fictional discourse, names, characters, stories, truth, and worlds). My main research is in the areas of Philosophy of Language, Metaphysics, and Formal Semantics. However, my interests in Philosophy have always been very broad and I have always been open to most philosophical issues. Only a few topics have moved me very little, and even those have moved me more than once.

Since I am at UBC, and due to the influence of Dom Lopes, Paul Bartha and Paul Russell, I developed a bigger interest in metaphysical issues within the areas of Aesthetics (ontology of art, fiction, and philosophy of literature), Philosophy of Science (causation), and Ethics (free will). In fact, I have work in progress done in fiction and causation, and I would like to do some work on free will soon as well.

Other work in progress I have at the moment is on the coherence of relativism (Meta-ethics), the actualism/possibilism debate (Metaphysics of Modality/Ontology), and the compositionality of Millian modes of presentation.
