Semantics and Pragmatics (S&P)

We will read recent work on different topics in Semantics and Pragmatics, with the common theme of trying to understand the nature of meaning by studying different types or kinds of meaning. We will read papers on the nature of meaning, on presuppositions, on expressive meaning and on implicatures, as well as on ways of conveying information that resemble meaning, but can be argued to involve phenomena distinct from meaning.

The reading list will be agreed upon and updated as we go along.

We will be meeting on Monday 12h-14h, every other week, starting on November 8th.

If you would like to join the group, or some of its sessions, please email josep.macia at
