Semantics and Pragmatics (S&P)

General description
The Semantics and Pragmatics RG 2022-23 will meet, every other week, on Tuesdays, 15h-17h, starting on October 25.

As in previous years, we will read recent work on different topics in Semantics and Pragmatics. Three of the topics that will be covered this year are the interaction between implicatures and presuppositions, the interaction between commitment and the different ways of conveying meaning, and the relevance of Semantics for some issues in metaphysics.

The reading list will be agreed upon and updated as we go along. The initial reading list will include:

- Sutton, Peter (2022) “Countability and the problem of the many” (ms.)

-Buchanan, Ray, and Henry Ian Schiller, 2022, “Meaning and Responsibility.” Mind & Language,

-Oswald, Steve. 2022, “Insinuation Is Committing.” Journal of Pragmatics 198: 158–70
