Chemistry

The Faculty of Chemistry has carried out several  Service-learning activities: 

 

  • Interuniversity projects (UPC-UJI-UB) with high social content.

These interuniversity projects (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya- Universitat Jaume I - Universitat de Barcelona) are part of the "Network of Educational Innovation in M ​@terial Interuniversity Science" (IdM@tI).

During the 2015-16 and 2016-17 years it has participated in the development of 2 projects where the recipients of the work developed by
the students were people with severe motor deficiencies of the Maset del Frater (Castellón, Spain)

The works developed were:

  1. Handles adapted to eat. Course 2015-16
  2. Design of the helmet, of the subjections and of the licorni to paint. Course 2016-17
     

During the 2017-18 course students in the Materials Selection course (compulsory subject for the 8th semester of the Degree in Materials Engineering) will make the selection of the most suitable materials for a new crutch based on the designs made by the students of the Degree of Industrial Design and Product Development of the UJI.

  • TFG in terms of Service-learning: Use of compost and biochar for the improvement of the quality of urban soils in the framework of an exhibition with public participation

The students participated in the design and implementation of scientific activities and citizen participation aimed at involving citizens in the improvement of the environmental health of the city of Barcelona, ​​specifically in the improvement of the quality of urban land with the addition of organic amendments, such as compost and biochar, from the reuse of plant remains.

The activities consisted, among others, in the implementation of simple methodologies (Doctor X prescriptions) to evaluate the quality of the soil and the realization of awareness and learning workshops for the citizens. These activities were carried out in the "Estació Ciutat" (Passatge Trullàs, District of Sant Martí) in the conceptual framework of the Environmental Health Clinic, proposed by the engineer and artist Natalie Jeremijenko.

 

The "Estació Ciutat" is a cooproduction of "CCCB" and the "Institut de Cultura de Barcelona", "l’Àrea d’Ecologia, Urbanisme i Mobilitat de l’Ajuntament de Barcelona" and the "District of Sant Martí" with the collaboration of "Taula Eix Pere IV".

 

In the 2017-18 academic year the participation of the Faculty begins in the "Sharing Ideas. Univeristy goes to high school" cycle with the Conference-Workshop: "For the sandwich: aluminium foil or lunch box?" In which students of the The Materials Selection subject of the Materials Engineering Degree will be taught to students of high school.

This activity will consist of a conference followed by a workshop that will show the advantages and disadvantages of each one of the options from the point of view of recycling.
The students have participated in the cross curricular with some conferences and workshops.

ASSIGNATURA INTERGRAUS "ApS, COMPROMÍS I TRANSFORMACIÓ SOCIAL"

Tanca la seva primera edició 2023-2024 l'assignatura compartida per diferents graus de la UB 'Aprenentatge servei, compromís i transformació social' que impulsa el Grup Aprenentatge Servei UB. En aquesta ocasió han donat resposta a una repte ambiental donada la contaminació a la platja de les 3 xemeneies de Sant Adrià del Besòs alumnat dels graus de: Belles Arts, Bioogia, Bioquímica, biotecnologia, Ciències Ambientals, Ciències biomèdiques, Sociologia, Treball Social, Farmàcia, Nutrrició Humana i Infermeria.
