- Since receiving my PhD in Hamburg in 1981, I have worked at several Universities (Free University of Berlin, Universities of Cologne, Greifswald, Hamburg, Kiel, Konstanz, Mainz, Missouri Saint Louis, Mining-School of Freiberg, as well as at the Norwegian Business-School (NHH). Since 1998 I am been based at the University of Bergen in Norway. I have published with the period of 1850 until today on the relation of enterprise and the state, competition on foreign markets, foreign direct investment, economic co-operation (cartels as well as co-operatives), on the role of the labour movement in Europe, on the international transfer of economic ideas (esp. Americanization), and on the specific role of entrepreneurs - family enterprise. I earlier served as the Secretary and Treasurer of European Business History Association, and 2911-2013 as its President. I acted as referee for many international journals (Business History, Business History Review, Zeitschrift für Unternehmensgeschichte and so an) as well as for many publishing houses (such as Cambridge University Press, Oxfrod University Press, Routledge, C.H. Beck, Springer, Kluwer, E. Elgar). I am member of the editorial boards of several journals.
