Dr. Rubiralta’s electoral party proposes a round of talks to design a strategic plan looking clearly beyond the University’s four-year mandate, hereby initiating the project The University of Barcelona Horizon 2020, Strategies to Meet the Future with Success. |
| September |
The Management Council produces its first draft of an operational outline for the plan, entitled The University of Barcelona Strategic Plan Horizon 2020. |
| October |
The Social Council studies the outline, and publicly announces both its approval of the need for such a project and its commitment to project development. |
| November |
The Senate seconds this approval, the philosophy and spirit of which it considers can provide the University with the means to direct its own process of renovation. |
| 2006 |

| March |
The first meeting is held between representatives of the Rector’s management team lead by the Rector, representatives of the Social Council and the four coordinators of the work groups proposed in the Plan. |
| May |
The work groups begin their individual tasks, which are both internally and externally assessed, with the Secretary General, the Secretary of the Social Council and the Manager acting as the Plan’s steering committee. |
| July |
The members of the different work groups meet in a general assembly to establish and design the first lines of the future, using affinity diagrams (Metaplan
technique) and putting emphasis on interaction between the different groups so as to ensure cross-disciplinary analysis. |
| December |
The Rector informs the Senate of the various advances in the design of the University of Barcelona Strategic Plan Horizon 2020 and of the proposals put forwards to maximise the university community’s informed participation in the Plan. |
| 2007 |

Dr. Josep M. Bricall takes office to facilitate the cross-disciplinary nature of the work being undertaken and to complete the Plan’s draft document. |
| April |
The Plan opens its own offices, specialist library and meeting rooms in one of the wings at the Historical Building. |
| May |
The first Convention on Strategic Reflection, open to all the university community and focussing on the Plan Horizon 2020. |
| June |
The second Convention on Strategic Reflection, open to all the university community and focussing on the Plan Horizon 2020. |
