2nd Science Meeting of Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD)

On 1 February, the 2nd Science Day of Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD) took place at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona. The IRSJD is made up of academic research groups from five entities. These institutions are two teaching hospitals, the Sant Joan de Déu Children’s Hospital (HSJD) and the Sant Joan de Déu Sanitary Park (PSSJD), and three university research institutes, the Institute of Biomedicine (IBUB) and the Institute of Neurosciences (UBneuro ) Of the Universitat de Barcelona and the Center for Research in Biomedical Engineering (CREB) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.

This science session, which gathered 160 participants, was opened by Marçal Pastor, professor from the Faculty of Biology and director of the Institute of Biomedicine of the UB (IBUB), and Francesc Palau, lecturer from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the UB and director of the IRSJD. Manel Sabés, lecturer from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), gave the conference: “Sincrotró Alba: aplicacions en Salut”.

This scientific meeting was focused on promoting collaborative research to design new clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic protocols to benefit patients and society in general, in addition to serving as a framework to debate on future collaboration projects, and open new options to promote the direction of doctoral studies and incorporation of employment offers for young researchers within IRSJD-affiliated institutions, among other interests. The future aim of the Institute is to promote the institutional collaboration to progress on research on neurosciences, pediatric oncology, metabolism, inflammation and immune response, mental health and epidemiology, apart from promoting transparency and technological innovation in the field of health and biomedicine.
