Clive Dilnot
Is professor of Design Studies at Parsons, The New School for Design in New York. Previously he taught at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Harvard University, in Hong Kong and the UK. He has written extensively on issues in design philosophy, history and theory, and on aesthetics, photography, architecture and economics. He has lectured and spoken at conferences world-wide. His recent work is focuses on design futures, ethics and the question of the artificial.
José Bragança de Miranda
José A. Bragança de Miranda holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from NOVA University of Lisbon (1990), having completed his aggregation in «Theory of Culture» (2000) at the same university where he is currently Associate Professor in the Communication Sciences department, at NOVA University of Lisbon. Since 1992, he has lectured at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias as an invited full Professor and has been teaching in the areas of Theory of Culture, Contemporary Arts, Media Theory and Cyberculture. He is a researcher and founder of the Research Center for Communication and Languages (CECL) at NOVA University of Lisbon and serves on the editorial boards of a number of scientific journals, namely the Revista de Comunicação e Linguagens, the first academic journal in the field of Communication Sciences to be published in Portugal. It is currently in its 45th volume, dedicated to the theme of «Movement and Technological Mobilization», for which he was the editor. He is also editor-in-chief of the academic journal Caleidoscópio and President of the General Assembly of SOPCOM – the Portuguese Association for Communication Sciences, of which he is a co-founder. He curated the project Ligações Links_Liaisons for Porto2001 – European Capital of Culture, having published with Maria Teresa Cruz the book Crítica das Ligações na Era da Técnica (Tropismos, 2002) which reported the project results. He was President of the jury for Communication Sciences of FCT, President of the jury for Documentary of ICAM (2006) and a member of the jury of the BESPhoto Prize (2008). He has also authored numerous essays in the areas of contemporary culture, namely: Analítica da Actualidade; Política e Modernidade; Traços: Ensaios de Crítica da Cultura; Teoria da Cultura; Síntese; Albuquerque Mendes ou o Ardor da Arte; Queda Sem Fim; Envios; Uma experimentação filosófica na Internet; Corpo e Imagem. He has approached art in many of his essays, especially the «interactive arts» and the relations between «art and the body», having published critical texts on the works of Richard Tuttle, Jimmie Durham, Jorge Molder, Stelarc, Romy Castro, Alberto Carneiro, amongst others.
Margarida Fragoso
Is a Designer with a Ph.D in Design from the Technical University of Lisbon (UTC). As a researcher in Design History and Ideas has participated in national and international meetings and projects funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Amongst other publications she is the author of Design gráfico in Portugal – contributo para a cultura visual no Século XX (Livros Horizonte, Lisboa, 2012). She is active in the Culture Department of the City Hall of Lisbon as member of the Research Program and Safeguard of the “azulejo” in Lisbon, and as coordinator of the Program of Cultural Voluntaries. In addition she is a member of the Scientific board of the Doctoral Course in Design at the Faculty of Architecture of the UTC and Guest Professor of the Doctoral Course in Design of that Faculty and Effective Member of the CIAUD – Centre for Research in Architecture, Town Planning and Design – centre of excellence of the FCT. In 2001, she was recognized through honorary mention by Culture Department of the City Hall of Lisbon, and in 2008 won the “João Branco” Prize in Research in Design.
Vanni Pasca
Full Professor (retired) in design, he was President of the Degree Course and Master’s Course in Design at Palermo University and coordinator of the Doctorate in Design. He taught Design History at Politecnico-Milan, IULM- Milan, ISIA-Florence, contributed to the European Study Program of Texas Tech University, at Superior School of Industrial Design of Rio de Janeiro. He is the Chairman of the Italian Society of Design Historians. In 1991 curated the International Congress on Historical Design Studies at Politecnico-Milano. He directs the series Design for Lupetti Editori and also the magazine-on-line www.palermodesign.it which promoted in 2008 the 1st Mediterranean Competition (exhibition in Istanbul) and 2010 the 2nd Mediterranean Competition (exhibition in Barcellona). He curated exhibitions in Milan, São Paulo, Brasilia, New York, Lisbon etc. His writings include: Vico Magistretti, architect and designer, Milan 1999; Christopher Dresser: the first industrial designer, Milan 2001; Young Design Scenarios, Milano 2002; Corporate Image, Milano 2006; The Design in the Future, Rome 2009.
