Guidelines for readers submitting contributions

Subscribers wishing to participate in a particular issue of the journal by submitting new contributions or replies and comments should send them to the Editorial Assistant by e-mail in accordance with the norms laid down in the guidelines for publication, together with a personal information form. The Institute of Education Sciences at the University of Barcelona cannot undertake to publish all contributions submitted by readers, rather the decision to publish contributions in the journal will be taken in the review process instigated by the Academic Committee.

Submission guidelines

1. Guidelines for manuscript preparation

  • The full text of the manuscript should be sent by e-mail, as an attached document in word format to the following address: eduling@ub.edu
  • The author should clearly state the section of the journal for which the contribution is intended: New contributions or Replies and comments.
  • The complete manuscript should be no longer than 10 pages (in the case of New contributions) or 5 pages (in the case of Replies and comments), and should be presented as following:
    • Font: Times New Roman
    • Font size: 11 (with the exception of the title which should be font size: 12)
    • Line spacing: 1.5
    • Margins: upper and lower, 2.5 cm.; left and right, 3 cm.
    • Page alignment: aligned
    • Page numbering: Bottom centre
  • The following elements should appear on the first page in the order given, and on successive lines:
    • Title of the submission: on the top line, centred, in capital letters; font size: 12, in bold.
    • Name and surname of the author(s): two lines after the title, centred, in capital letters; in the case of there being more than one author, separate names with commas or '&'.
    • Name of the institution at which the author(s) are employed: centred, in lower case letter with the exception of initials; should the authors be employed at different institutions, they should be listed in the same order as the names above, separated by commas or '&'.
    • e-mail address: in lower case letters, centred.
    • Main text: three lines after the e-mail address begin the text.
  • Section headings, two lines between the preceding and following paragraphs, in the same font size (11), in lower case letters (except initials) and in bold.
  • Subsection headings, two lines between the preceding and following paragraphs, in the same font size (11), in lower case letters (except initials) and in italics.
  • New paragraphs, no indentation and separated by two lines from the preceding paragraph.
  • Footnotes should be kept to a minimum, but when necessary they should appear at the end of the submission, not at the foot of each page, in the same font size as the text (11), numbered consecutively.
  • Bibliographic details of references can be presented as the author(s) deem most appropriate (but the letter font and line spacing should be consistent throughout).

2. The review process and selection of contributions

  • All contributions submitted will go through a blind review process conducted by members of the Academic Committee. On submitting a contribution, the Editorial Assistant will send the corresponding receipt notice, and within a period of no more than 15 days, the authors will be notified of the decision, which might be:
    • acceptance without modifications
    • acceptance with modifications
    • non-acceptance
  • Contributions accepted without modifications will be published in the journal, having first notified the author(s), in accordance with the conditions in the section below.
  • In the case in which a contribution is recommended by the Academic Committee for acceptance following certain revisions, the author(s) will be notified of the changes deemed necessary in their work. Once these modifications have been made to the manuscript, the contribution will be published in the journal.
  • A decision of non-acceptance will be accompanied by a note explaining the reasons.

3. Guidelines for the publication of contributions to [eduling]

  • The manuscripts submitted (in the version sent by the authors: the Editorial Assistant gives no undertaking to correct the papers) will be included within the journal, where they can be consulted by users until the end of the six-month period corresponding to that specific issue. On the date each new contribution appears on the web site, a message is sent to notify all subscribers.
  • The manuscripts will be converted to pdf format, allowing users to print (though not save) the document.

4. Conditions for participation

  • All manuscripts must be original and must not have been previously published. Authors must also undertake not to publish their contribution elsewhere during the six months that the article appears in the current issue.
  • The authors of the manuscripts accepted for publication give permission to the Institute of Education Sciences of the University of Barcelona to make their work permanently accessible via the electronic archives of [eduling]. To disseminate the article in other media, ICE will first seek the consent of the author(s).
  • The submission of a manuscript to the Editorial Assistant presupposes the acceptance on the part of the author of the conditions for participation laid down here.
