Jasone Cenoz is professor of English applied linguistics at the University of the Basque Country - Euskal Herriko Unibersitatea. Her research focuses on various aspects of the acquisition of English as a third language, particularly the influence of bilingualism in the acquisition of a third language, transfer between languages, the pragmatics of interlanguage, the acquisition of phonetics and the influence of age on third language acquisition.

Since 1996 she has been coordinator of a project on the influence of age on the acquisition of English as a third language in the Basque Country, and is director of the research group 'Research in English Applied Linguistics' at the University of the Basque Country.

She has presented lectures and papers at congresses at home and abroad, and has published in international journals. She has edited the following books: Beyond Bilingualism: Multilingualism and Multilingual Education (1998, with Fred Genesee); English in Europe: the Acquisition of a Third Language (2000, with Ulrike Jessner); Cross-linguistic Influence in Third Language Acquisition: Psycholinguistic Perspectives (2001, with Britta Hufeisen and Ulrike Jessner); Studies in Tri- and Multilingualism: Looking Beyond Second Language Acquisition (2001, with Britta Hufeisen and Ulrike Jessner); Trends in Bilingual Acquisition. (2001, with Fred Genesee).
