Welcome Letter from the Director
Dear student,
As Director of the University School of Nursing and on behalf of all our teaching staff I would like to welcome you the world of Nursing and Podiatry.
On our website you will find information about the degree courses we teach: the EHEA bachelor’s degree in Nursing and the EHEA bachelor’s degree in Podiatry. For those of you that already have a qualification and want to further your knowledge we also offer a diverse range of UB-specific postgraduate degrees and diplomas and a doctoral program in Nursing Sciences.
The University School of Nursing exists to train professionals to be actively and critically engaged with society, and competent in providing the nursing and podiatry services needed by individuals, families and the community within the framework of current health policy and university programs.
The School’s infrastructure is based around various governing bodies and academic councils in which students can participate by expressing ideas and making contributions. From the time they begin studying with us, students are each appointed a tutoring member of staff who will provide constant assessment of their learning progress and study program for the duration of their stay at the university.
Teaching staff at the School has consistently shown an outstanding commitment to training nurses and podiatrists, providing them with solid scientific knowledge and the humanistic and ethical values they need to become skilled in the fields of care, teaching, management and research within the profession. Graduates commonly work within multidisciplinary teams, and thereby contribute to improving the health and quality of life of all society.
For Nursing students, classroom training is complemented by clinical practice at the various UB university hospitals and in primary care centres, most of which are associated with the Catalan Government Health Department’s Institut Catala de la Salut. Clinical work for Podiatry students is conducted at the University’s Podiatry Clinic and in two centres run by the Hospitalet de Llobregat local council.
The activities carried out in these centres are designed so that students may accomplish the following objectives:
 |
complete subjects requiring clinical work and put theoretical knowledge gained from classroom training into practice; |
 |
discover and get to know the different environments within our health care system, thus becoming oriented towards employment opportunities and postgraduate training. |
Evidently, the collaboration of the aforementioned centres and the involvement of healthcare professionals in clinical teaching are essential elements of comprehensive training in nursing and podiatry.
The University School of Nursing also has agreements with various national and international universities which provide students with the option to apply for grants to complete study stays in different places. These represent opportunities for life experiences of growth and enrichment, from both academic and personal points of view.
To facilitate lifelong learning the School offers an impressive range of postgraduate studies:
