COST Training course: An integrated approach to marine invertebrate biodiversity: evolutionary and functional adaptations

Personal investigador/acadèmic
The COST project MARISTEM: STEM CELLS OF MARINE/AQUATIC INVERTEBRATES: FROM BASIC RESEARCH TO INNOVATIVE APPLICATIONS

The project aims at fostering and consolidating the fragmented European community of scientists and institutions involved in marine/aquatic invertebrate stem cells. By sharing the expertise of our members, we are creating a wide and strong network of European research excellence to develop innovative ideas and applications.

Marine and aquatic invertebrates as a whole show the largest biodiversity on Earth and illustrate a kaleidoscope of stem cell-based phenomena of significant interest for human welfare. While stem cell research represents one of the most dynamic areas in biology and biomedicine, the study of marine and aquatic invertebrate stem cell (MISC) has not been pursued vigorously. The goal of this action is to foster the study of MISCs by strengthening the European research community, and to integrate it with biomedical disciplines for innovative applications

The training school is organized in the framework of a joint agreement of academic cooperation among the Universities of Milan, Padua, Palermo, and Salento (Lecce) and sponsored by the COST European Programme “Maristem” coordinated by the Department of Biology of the University of Padua (IT), the Zoological Society of Italy (UZI) and the Italian Association of Developmental and Comparative Immunology SIICS-IADCI).

Dr. Pedro Martinez from IRBIo-UB is one of the experts professors and research involved on the project and at the course.

Place and dates of the training:
Chioggia (VE) - September, 9-13, 2019
