Stefano Ambroso va estudiar biologia marina a la Università di Trieste (Itàlia) on es va llicenciar el desembre de 2010 amb la presentació del projecte de recerca “Spatial distribution patterns of the soft corals Alcyonium acaule and Alcyonium palmatum in coastal bottoms (Cap de Creus, nord-oest). Mar Mediterrani)". Aquest projecte es va dur a terme a l'Institut de Ciències del Mar de Barcelona, sota la direcció de Josep-Maria Gili i Andrea Gori. Va iniciar la seva carrera científica l'any 2009 a l'ICM-CSIC. La seva activitat investigadora està relacionada amb l'ecologia i els patrons de distribució espacial de les comunitats bentòniques. Ha participat en nombrosos projectes de recerca marina (MAPUCHE, BENTOLARV, LIFE-INDEMARES, ECOSAFIMED, RESCAP i MITICAP) relacionats amb la conservació i gestió de les zones costaneres mediterrànies. Va realitzar la tesi doctoral sota la direcció de Josep Maria Gili i Nuria Teixidó Ullod. El projecte de doctorat pretenia comprendre l'estructura i la dinàmica de les comunitats macrobentòniques antàrtiques dominades per espècies longeves del mar de Weddell. Actualment té una plaça postdoctoral a la Universitat de Barcelona. el projecte té com a objectiu entendre la dinàmica poblacional de les comunitats bentòniques profundes mitjançant vehicles operats a distància (ROV).

Predoctoral Researcher in Marine Sciences at the University of Barcelona. I study molecular eukaryotic biodiversity patterns in shallow hard‐bottom Antarctic benthic communities using DNA metabarcoding.

The two main areas of my research are marine chemical ecology (natural products benthic invertebrates temperate, tropical and polar) and integrated coastal zone management (use of benthic invertebrates as indicators of environmental conditions in coastal management processes).

I am currently working at the Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona (ICM-CSIC) and the University of Barcelona (UB). My research is focused on the effect of ocean acidification on Antarctic marine calcifiers.

During my early career, as graduated in Marine Biology and a master in Marine Ecology, I have mainly studied how environmental variability modulates biochemical and reproductive adaptations in different species of marine invertebrates. Furthermore, I am currently conducting my PhD thesis about potential effects of glacial melt and retreat on different ecological characteristics of Antarctic marine benthic communities.

Conservation biology of plants, with special emphasis on the biology of small populations of endemic species and subjected to fragmentation processes in the Mediterranean region (demography, reproductive biology, population genetics). Databases of genetic biodiversity. Pharmaceutical botany.

I study the patterns of diversity (plant and animal) in agricultural landscapes, with special attention to the contrast between conventional and organic systems, and the impact of changes in diversity on functionalism of these systems and the implications for management and conservation. Also dedicate part of my work analyzing spatial data diversity, floristic studies in the biology of invasions.

I am an Associate Professor 'Serra Húnter' at the University of Barcelona and the lead of the Freshwater Ecology, Hydrology and Management (FEHM-Lab) research group. My research interests mainly focus on the biodiversity, ecology, and conservation of freshwater ecosystems. In particular, I have been working on large-scale spatial patterns of aquatic macroinvertebrates mediterranean climate rivers and their responses to past, present, and future disturbances, combining community and population approaches. I have conducted my research mainly on of the world, where intermittent rivers are part of the daily landscape and have triggered many evolutionary adaptations of species.

Marine phycology (macroalgae). Florisitic and phytosociological studies of population or phytobenthic communities of the Mediterranean. Biosystematic studies of different taxonomic groups focused on the implementation of the 'Flora Iberica Phycologica. Crops in germination chambers of early stage development of germ cells to give birth. Cytogenetic studies on the quantification of nuclear DNA from  marine macroalgae.

La meva recerca se centra en l'estudi de la diversitat, ecologia, ecofisiologia i conservació dels ecosistemes marins vulnerables (VME) mesofóticos i profunds dominats per coralls i gorgònies, per a l'obtenció de coneixement útils a la seva gestió sostenible i conservació. Aquesta investigació es desenvolupa seguint un enfoc multidisciplinari que combina treball de camp, estudis experimentals i una àmplia gamma d'anàlisi de laboratori. En aquest sentit, la meva investigació inclou l'estudi de la taxonomia, dels patrons de distribució espacial de les espècies, l'estat de les seves poblacions (demografia), condició energètica (contingut de lípids), biologia reproductiva i tròfica (composició en isòtops estables i àcids grassos) i processos metabòlics (calcificació, respiració i excreció). La combinació de mostrejos mitjançant busseig amb escafandre autònoma i l'ús de tecnologia subaquàtica (càmeres submarines remolcades, vehicles operats a distància, vehicles submarins autònoms, submergibles tripulats) permet estudiar les espècies de corall i gorgònies sobre àrees i rangs de profunditat extensos que cobreixen tota la seva distribució espacial, com la millor manera per aconseguir una comprensió integral de la seva ecologia i la variabilitat de les seves respostes a les característiques ambientals i els impactes induïts per l'activitat humana.

Doctora en biologia especialitzada en etnobotànica. La meva recerca es centra en l’inventari i conservació del coneixement tradicional relacionat amb la biodiversitat amb l’objectiu de preservar aquest patrimoni i constituir la base per a futures investigacions per a obtenir nous medicaments, aliments i altres productes relacionats amb el benestar humà. Actualment, en el marc de l'ajut Margarita Salas estic fent una estada postdoctoral a l’Emory Univerity (Atlanta, USA), per tal de formar-me en fitoquímica i microbiologia i així associar els usos medicinals de les plantes citats en l’etnobotànica en llengua catalana amb els seus compostos actius i testar-ne la seva activitat.
