II International Forum HerbArt: Art and Science at confluence

Research staff
Thursday 15 and Friday 16 July, from 3.30 pm to 6 pm Historic Building of the University of Barcelona. Aula Magna. Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585. 08007 Barcelona. To this day there has been opposition and a wall separating scientific and humanistic activities and thoughts, which have lived on their backs and remained too far apart from each other, this is a problem in progress. of human society. Since the organization of the forum, we have been actively trying to break down this existing wall between these two areas of knowledge. In 2019, scientists and artists converged on the organization of an international conference, entitled "HerbArt: art and science at a confluence", with which we proposed a space for relationships, work, collaboration and diffusion. The successful experience led us to co-participate in the European project “Roots & Seeds. Biodiversity Crisis and Plant Resistance ”(BioXXI, 616712-CREA-1-2020-1-ES-CULT-COOP1), with the Quo Artis Foundation (Barcelona), Leonardo / OLATS (Paris) and Ars Electronica (Linz). We are united by the same purpose of definitively merging botany and art, science and the humanities into a single culture to face future challenges in the face of the biodiversity crisis. The forum presented below is therefore part of the creative and research activities covered by the project. Artists and scientists feel connected to the need to explore and research knowledge that allows us to understand the world around us. The scientific method, in dialogue with artistic expression, has great creative potential to activate new channels of communication and legitimize a critical and transformative discourse. The functional collapse of our planet may therefore become the reason why the arts and science can come together to work together. We are interested in reflecting on the modifications of human interaction with nature, the increase or abandonment of activities that condition the landscapes, soils and botanical species of the environment. Observe and raise what appears or may appear again, the constant changes. From a territorial approach, but extrapolable to the global dimension.
