Interview to Dra. Conxita Ávila


Conxita Àvila is a marine biologist, attached to the Faculty of Biology and the Biodiversity Research Institute of the University of Barcelona (IRBio). One of its specialties is the study of animals of the Antarctic seabed; to do her research she has traveled nine times to Antarctica. For two months, from January to March, taking advantage of the austral summer, she has been to Antarctica in a campaign with experts from the Faculties of Biology and Pharmacy and Food Sciences of the Universitat de Barcelona, and the Biological Station of Doñana (EBD-CSIC). They have been working at the Antarctic base Gabriel de Castilla, settled on Deception Island, in the South Shetland archipelago. Now, in return, she explains her experience to El Nacional.
