Living Planet Report

Living Planet Report, WWF published an assessment every two years to assess the environmental state of the planet through three indicators, the Living Planet Index (HPI), which measures the state of biodiversity through the population trends of the species vertebrates, and the ecological footprint and water footprint measuring humanity that makes use of renewable natural resources that provide us the planet.

Conclusions can not be more alarming and should move the whole society to action. Since 1970 populations of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish have declined by more than 52%. Which means that in just two human generations have halved the size of vertebrate populations on the planet.

The report also shows that we are using 50% more resources than the earth can provide and now longer need the regenerative capacity of 1.5 planets to provide the ecological services they use every year. We are living beyond the ecological limits, consuming our natural capital and abounding in ecological deficit, making it more difficult to meet the needs of present and future generations.
