PREDOCTORAL POSITION IN CONSERVATION GENOMICS

A predoctoral position is available to work on conservation genomics on sea turtles.

We are seeking candidates for applying to FPU- FI – APIF scholarships to join our laboratory with very good academic records and motivation.

In our laboratory, we work on population and conservation genomics of several marine organisms. The endangered loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) is an iconic species whose management requires in-depth knowledge of reproductive features and population structuration. In the Mediterranean regular nesting grounds are restricted to the eastern part of the basin and feeding grounds are scattered across all the Mediterranean. We have been working on genetic population structuring of this species in the Mediterranean but population genomics is needed to refine many open questions that have arisen from our data. The genetic structure is difficult to assess in species that experience long migrations during their life cycle in which different reproductive units may form mixed stocks in certain feeding areas but might remain genetically isolated in their breeding grounds. The candidate will perform genomic libraries and bioinformatics techniques to evaluate the origin of individuals in feeding grounds as well as the increased sporadic nesting in the western Mediterranean that could result in an ongoing colonization process.

To apply, please send a detailed CV and a motivation letter before 7th October 2019 to:
