Marina Garcés: “Enriching the experience with humanities is key to creating a more interesting and emancipatory technology.”

On September 13, Marina Garcés, philosopher, professor of Arts and Humanities Studies and director of the master’s degree in Philosophy for Contemporary Challenges of the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), was interviewed in the Retina magazine of the newspaper El País.

Throughout the interview, aspects related to technology, social media, the information society – not necessarily leading to understanding – fast food and fake news, among others, were discussed.

According to Garcés, technology itself is not the problem, but “who creates it, from what concerns and with what vision of society and the world.” And this is precisely what we must ask ourselves, critically and from humanities and philosophy, as consumers and as citizens.

Marina Garcés will participate in the 1st International Conference on Research in Education on November 5. For more information and registration visit http://www.ub.edu/ired19/
