OpenCitations is an organization dedicated to the open publication of bibliographic data and citations, as well as to the promotion of open citations. It aims to create and expand an open, downloadable bibliographic corpus that functions as an index of citations, complying with the FAIR data principles of the Force11 community, according to which data must be locatable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.

OpenCitations is a non-commercial initiative, funded by foundations, networks and non-profit organizations. Its promoters want to continue expanding coverage in all areas of knowledge to become an alternative to the commercial products of multinational companies such as Clarivate Analytics and Elsevier.
