Can massive communities of teachers facilitate collaborative reflection? Fractal design as a possible answerThis paper explores the possibility that virtual communities of teachers with large numbers of members (referred to as massive communities of teachers) can offer support to novice teachers by means of collaborative reflection. The paper examines and conceptualises some problems found in professional massive communities and proposes that massification can dilute what some authors have called social presence or engagement. It is argued that this dilution, among other problems, very much hinders collaborative reflection among members of the community. Collaborative reflection is argued to be a crucial part of the support that novice teachers need in their first years in the profession. Therefore, a challenge is envisioned for massive communities of teachers to avoid the dilution of social presence or engagement. The authors argue that this dilution can be overcome by the use of multiple layers within a platform, referred to as fractal design. |

The improvement of the motivation of students with the experience of using the blogsThis article emphasizes the importance of using the new technologies to of university education. Purpose of the study is to present our experiences about using blogs in higher education. Concretely, at the universities of Barcelona (Spain) and Bucharest (Romania). There is no doubt that the emergence of technologies in universities has represented a paradigm change in teaching and an important methodology. The two projects an observed the improvement of the student motivation with the experience and how the use of blogs can deepen the contents of matter and develop certain skills such as digital competence and reflective capacity. However, experience also enables determine lines of future research to enable precisely what features should of having the blog for achieving improving competition thoughtful analysis and / or what can be the role of peers to give formative feedback. The use of ICT in university teaching practice is contemplated as a necessity facing the adaptation to the European Higher Education Area. The implementation of the EHEA has involved great challenges in higher education; particularly challenging is a rethinking of teaching methodology, which centers the objective in the process of active learning and of the student continued where technologies have an important role. The use of ICT in university teaching practice is seen as a necessity facing the adaptation to the European Higher Education Area. Technological development and new forms of communication forced to the university institution to reconsider educational practice. The digital technologies of information and communication are having a growing role in university educational processes, demanding setting up new spaces and learning environments and new roles and job roles in teachers. |

The influence of the internet for pedagogical innovation: using twitter to promote online collaborative learningThis article analyses a practice of formative peer-assessment based on an experience in university teaching innovation. From a review of the literature on feedback for self-regulation, the traits of formative assessment practices are determined and a task and the assessment criteria are designed in a consistent way with these traits. After the application of the experience, the results are discussed in terms of students’ involvement; activity performance of said experience and of the whole subject; motivation and self-perception of learning and of the competency-based development of the students. The results show positive effects on the involvement, motivation and learning perception but not on performance improvement, suggesting that future research should address the effects of self-regulating feedback on the estimated learning from objective measurements and should expand the studies of the effects of these practices on the immediate and future self-regulating capacity. |

Quality indicators: developing ‘MOOCs’ in the European Higher Education AreaThe objective of this research is to design an integrated system of evaluation of the quality of the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) taking into account the features of this type of courses. The criteria included in the evaluation of the quality of e-learning training in a broad sense are considered, and specifically those developed for the MOOCs. Using a quantitative, descriptive and sectional design, a team of experts have valued those indicators proposed by the scientific literature. To do this, eight courses, focusing on the field of entrepreneurship and innovation, were selected. Most of the analysed courses meet designated quality criteria by having a clear and organized academic structure. In addition, each course states clearly the timing and hours of dedication by the learner. However, only a few courses do that on the open Internet and on their own academic institutions’ websites. None of the MOOCs establishes the admission requirements. The main contribution of the current research is that it gives MOOC developers some quality indicators, related to course design and platform, to better plan their applied design and implementation, which has a decisive positive impact on the educational quality of such e-learning platforms. |
