The University of Barcelona and Planeta Formación y Universidades create a Chair on Higher Education Studies

On 9 March, the University of Barcelona and Planeta Formación y Universidades presented the Chair on Higher Education Studies, affiliated to the Faculties of Economics and Business and Education. This Chair is the result of a proposal of professors Amelia Díaz, Francisco Esteban, Miquel Martínez and Ernest Pons with the aim of creating a tool to study in depth the reality of today’s universities; to analyse the performance of higher education institutions in their missions, such as research and the transmission of knowledge, and above all, to delve into the relationship with students and the role of universities as trainers of future professionals and, more globally, of citizens.

Among the objectives of this Chair is the creation of a space for reference and reflection on university life and a training line in this theme. Regarding research, it will work on topics such as university identity, life conditions and the participation of the students in the university, the grant and aid system for the students, and employability. In order to work on such researches, the Chair will promote the carrying out of the bachelor’s degree and master’s degree final projects on these topics, and it will provide access to the corresponding databases and the methodological resources that allow its optimal use. The Chair’s projects also include various dissemination activities, such as launching publications, including a series of booklets on higher education, which will feature proposals for the design of policies in this field.
