The Grup de Biolingüística GB (Biolinguistics
Group) at the University of Barcelona (UB) was established
with the aim of relating the study of language to the
natural sciences in general and biology in particular.
This goal is fully justified, since the langauge faculty
is one of the most (if not the most) important endowments
of our species. The GB aims to advance this goal by
contributing to the consolidation and diffusion of information
on the subject via a number of different means, such
as lectures, seminars and conferences.
The GB regards as necessary the collaborative interchange
of ideas between linguistic theory and other disciplines
such as evolutionary biology, neurolinguistics, psycholinguistics,
genetics, complex systems theory, ethology, etc.). Incorporating
evidence from each of these fields allows us to gain
a better understanding of the nature, origins and evolution
of language.
