EPIGRAPHY
AND LITERATURE
1. Description and aims:

One of the
privileged research topics in the LITTERA group due to its fertility on an
interdisciplinary basis is the study of the relationships between epigraphy and
literature. This field covers both the study of those epigraphs that, due to
their contents, can be regarded as “literary texts” (as, for example, the
so-called carmina Latina epigraphica, i. e., poetic inscriptions) and the
study of the impact of the epigraphic message on the literary texts, as well as
the presence of inscriptions as an element of literary inspiration. In this
sense, on 1996, the Spanish organism DCYCIT funded a research project called "Litterae
in Titulis. Contactos entre la Literatura Latina y la Epigrafia" (PB96-1486),
which gave birth to the book: |
