Una de les conseqüències del coronavirus a la ciutat de Barcelona ha estat la disminució dels nivells de contaminació de NO2. Les causes principals són la disminució del trànsit rodat, però també hi ha pogut influir l’aturada de l’activitat al port de Barcelona i la del sector industrial.

The Mesoscale and Microscale Atmospheric Modeling and Research group from the University of Barcelona has changed its corporate image. A new modern website is built to include more contents and to make easier the user navigation. In addition, a new logo is designed inspired in the Lorenz attractor, which symbolizes the chaotic solutions that exist in the numerical weather models.

The MAiR group of the University of Barcelona is responsible of providing the ozone forecast for Catalunya every day through the ARAMIS.cat system. The forecasts are done for today (24 hours) and tomorrow (48 hours) consisting of: an air quality zone threshold map, a table with the corresponding levels, a 1-hour maximum value ozone map and a warning map with alerts of surpassing thresholds.

The last 7th Barcelona focused on pollution in urban areas and its effects on human health. The seminar was an update on the status of air quality in Catalonia in terms of both the progression of the pollutants emissions and the development of new strategies to deal with. An important discussed issue was the problem of surface ozone and particulate matter.
