    Admission requirements and criteria
The basic admission requirements are common to all Official Masters of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) offered in Spain. Please take a careful look at them here.

In addition to these basic requirements, admission to the Master in Biophysics requires the possession of an academic degree in sciences or engineering. The Master is addressed primarily to students with prior training in Physics, Biology, and Chemistry, but students with training in other scientific or engineering disciplines will also be considered. The Master is in English unless all students are native Spanish or Catalan speakers. Hence, knowledge of the English language is important.

    Starting date

The Master is organized in two semesters: Fall (September through January) and Spring (February through July). You can start the program in either semester. However, each course is offered only in one of the two semesters. Although the more natural sequence is to take first the Fall and then the Spring semester, the inverse order is also possible.

    Admission procedure
Admission to the Master program takes place in two steps: Pre-enrollment and Enrollment. There is a limited number of places available, therefore applicants must pre-enroll to be admitted for enrollment.

    Pre-enrollment
Pre-enrollment is possible at any time during the academic year. However, there are pre-enrollment deadlines for each semester, as described below.

The pre-enrollment applications are evaluated by the Master Coordination Committee four times a year, and according to the following deadlines:

    - For students begining  in Fall 2009: January 20th, 2009; April 15th, 2009; July 15th , 2009;  September 8th, 2009.
    - For students begining in Spring 2009: January 20th, 2009.

Admissions will be posted on this website within two weeks after the deadline. During the first admission period not all places will be assigned in order to reserve a certain number of places for the other admission periods.

To pre-enroll, you must complete an online application and e-mail the following documents (in Spanish, Catalan or English) to masterbiofisica@ecm.ub.es:

A 1. Copy of the certificate of your academic degree.
    A 2. Academic transcripts.
A 3. Curriculum vitae (detailing your level of knowledge of English, Spanish and Catalan languages and your computer skills).
A 4. For holders of a degree obtained outside de EHEA, the following documents are also required:
    - A copy of the certificate listing the course units completed.
    - A copy of a document certifying that your degree enables you to access postgraduate studies in the country where you did your degree.

These documents have to be authenticated and officially translated before enrollment by the appropriate diplomatic channel.

IMPORTANT: Online applications that are not followed by any documentation whithin 10 days will be automatically rejected.

    Students with former foreign studies

Holders of a degree obtained outside the EHEA, and which has not been officially validated or homologated to a Spanish degree, must apply for authorization by the University of Barcelona to be fully admitted into a Master program. Without this authorization you can only be conditionally admitted at the pre-enrollment stage, and you will need to apply for the authorization and obtain it before enrollment. Students that wish to have full admission into the Master at the pre-enrollment stage are required to apply for this authorization prior to the evaluation deadlines indicated above.

Documents required for the authorization are:

    B1. Application form (form):
    B2. Official copy of the degree certificate or equivalent (authenticated and officially translated into Spanish or Catalan by the appropiate diplomatic channel);
    B3. Official copy of the certificate listing the course units completed (authenticated and officially translated into Spanish or Catalan by the appropriate diplomatic channel);
B4. A document certifying that your degree enables you to access postgraduate studies in the country where you did your degree (authenticated and officially translated into Spanish or Catalan by the appropriate diplomatic channel).

The application form (in Spanish) includes the instructions for each country on how to authenticate and officially translate the documents by the appropriate diplomatic channel.

These documents must be sent to:

    Dr. Jordi Soriano Fradera
Students Admission Coordinator, Master in Biophysics
Dept. Estructura i Constituents de la Matèria
Facultat de Física, Universitat de Barcelona
Av. Diagonal 647, E-08028 Barcelona, Spain

Important: This authorization is valid only for enrollment into the Master in Biophysics and does not imply recognition or validation of the degree certificate.

    Enrollment (registration)
You will be admitted for enrollment if your pre-enrollment application is accepted by the Coordination Committee and, for non-EHEA degree holders, you have obtained the admission authorization described above. Enrollment time periods are usually one or two weeks before the begining of the lectures, which corresponds to September for the Fall semester, and February for the Spring semester. The exact dates vary every year and will be communicated to the student in advance. Before enrolling into the individual courses and modules you must contact the Master Coordinator in charge of Admission at masterbiofisica@ecm.ub.es to design your Master’s curriculum. Documents required for enrollment are listed here.

    In addition, the student needs:
    1. Approved admission authorization form (for non-EHEA degree holders).
    2. Form signed by the Admission Coordinator that specifies the courses that you will enroll.
