Starting from the academic year 2006-07, the Faculty of Physics of
the Universitat de Barcelona offers a Master in
Biophysics, in the framework of the European Area of Higher Education.

The interface between Biology and Physics is a fast-growing area of
science with an enormous potential for future development.
On the one hand, Physics is a quantitative science that brings a new
perspective
and new tools to the biological world. On the
other hand, Biology provides a universe of phenomena
that often require the development of new physical concepts. In
this context, this Master aims at providing a thorough
interdisciplinary training, with an outlook on both
fundamental research and industrial applications.
The Master provides knowledge,
skills, and competencies on modern experimental, theoretical,
and computational techniques in Biophysics.
It is part of an international context of
initiatives aimed at tranining and research in
Biophysics, which respond to a growing demand of today's society.
In particular, the area of Barcelona is poised to become
a centre of international relevance in the biotechnologies
(biocat - BioRegió de Catalunya), both in fundamental as
well as in applied research. The
interdisciplinary training offered by this
Master will prepare students for a wide range of professional
options, in academic research and in the biotechnology,
biomedical, and pharmaceutical industries.
Doctorate:
after the completion of 60 ECTS of the Master in Biophysics
students may apply to the Doctorate program.

(*) The main track (for bachelor-graduate students)
consists of 60 ECTS, which correspond to one year. Longer duration may
be considered in some particular cases when prior formation and
academic record would require it.
(**) Some courses will be given in the Faculties of Biology, Pharmacy and
Medicine.
