Module 2: Technical skills in critical care and emergencies

Module 2 aims to consolidate the skills, practical skills and decision making in clinical context, for the care of the acute acute patient, from the perspective of the continuum of care, in which the patient is approached from the prehospital setting, emergencies and its definitive treatment in the intensive care unit.

The teaching is organized in the form of practical 3-hour workshops. Basic technical skills, complex skills, integrated cases of clinical decision-making cross-cutting to different topics, and basic and advanced life support courses are addressed. The student has support material through the Virtual Campus, virtual simulators, reference articles, extension documents and clinical practice guidelines, as well as visits to specialized facilities in the prehospital setting.

  • Credits: 30 ECTS

  • Teaching period: October – June

  • Modality: Face-to-face

  • Teaching sites: Barcelona / Madrid

  • Language: Spanish

  • Cost: 2.500 € (Payment in January)

  • Access qualification: Graduates in Medicine or Nursing. Persons with a foreign university qualification equivalent to the previous ones or who in their country have legal attributions for health care.
  • Master modules: It is not required to have previously completed any module of the master to access the module.
  • Work experience: No previous work experience is required for admission to the master.

Train the technical skills of specialists, in small groups.

Integrated Cases

We train decision making in simulated clinical contexts, integrating theory, practice and reflexive techniques through computer simulation cases.

Integrated Emergency Exercises

The training of your skills and prehospital decision making are carried out in specialized facilities that replicate real environments

The final program will be delivered the day the master begins. Optional additional workshops may be scheduled to complement the study.

WORKSHOP AND INTEGRATED CASES:

Barcelona

  • Offer: The offer is from 42 to 45 workshops per year of different topics.

  • Recommendation of assistance: For the correct follow-up of the course, it is recommended to attend a workshop of 3 hours a week.

  • Schedule: Wednesday or Thursday. (Some weeks are scheduled complementary workshops on Mondays and Tuesdays), in different time zones to choose by the student.

  • Minimum requirements: Among all the offer of compulsory workshops, optional and integrated cases it is estimated that a minimum of 10 to 12 activities per semester (October-February, March-June) must be attended. Total 20 – 24 year workshops.

Madrid

  • Offer: The offer in Madrid is 10-15 workshops per year, which correspond to the compulsory workshops. The optional workshops are only held in Barcelona.

  • Recommendation of assistance: For the correct follow-up of the course, it is recommended to attend a workshop of 3 hours a week.

  • Schedules: they are notified at the beginning of the semester, they can vary of day of the week, they are realized mainly in fringe hour of afternoon from the 15,30.

  • Minimum requirements: Among all the offer of compulsory workshops, optional and integrated cases it is estimated that a minimum of 10 to 12 activities per semester (October-February, March-June) must be attended. Total 20 – 24 year workshops, this implies that the student will have to travel to Barcelona to do optional workshops.

LIFE SUPPORT COURSES

Barcelona and Madrid

  • Soporte Vital Básico (6 hours face-to-face)
  • Soporte Vital Avanzado (1 month online study + 2 days face-to-face)
  • The student must attend the course or validate it.

EMERGENCY EXERCICES

  • The students go to specialized prehospital facilities and during 12h carry out cases on the prehospital environment.
  • This exercise is only carried out in Barcelona, ​​this implies that the students of Madrid will have to travel to Barcelona to do it.

FACE-TO-FACE EXAM

  • The students take a practical exam of 4-6h duration per semester.

  • This exam is only carried out in Barcelona, ​​this implies that the students of Madrid will have to travel to Barcelona to do it.

PERSONAL STUDY: 5hours per week (aprox).

  • Workshops: mandatory face-to-face attendance at 10 – 12 semester workshops. 20-24 year workshops. ç

  • Life Support Courses: compulsory attendance at SVB and SVA or validation.

  • Emergency Exercises: compulsory attendance (only carried out in Barcelona headquarters)

  • Self-evaluation: before performing the obligatory workshops.

  • Formative Evaluation: One per semester (February, June), only takes place in Barcelona.
