Module 4: Clinical competences (Practicum) in critical care and emergencies

Module 4, Practicum, aims to put into practice clinical knowledge and skills previously acquired by the student. Special emphasis will be placed on the care process, as well as the physical and organizational structures of the different environments that serve critical patients: ICU, hospital emergencies and prehospital care.

The student will choose between a minimum of 4 rotations and a maximum of 6 Practicum rotations, of which he / she will always include one rotation in the general ICU and another in an emergency unit. The Practicum groups are adapted to medical doctors and nurses separately.

The student will rotate by General ICU and prehospital emergencies. The rotation by General ICU can be done in 1 or 2 weeks, with a daily dedication of 8 hours. The prehospital emergency rotation is 36 hours in a week. The student can request to validate these rotations if he / she accredits a work experience in those fields for more than one year.

  • Credits: 15 ECTS

  • Teaching period: August – January

  • Teaching modality: Face-to-face

  • Teaching sites: Barcelona / Madrid / Santo Domingo

  • Language: Spanish

  • Cost: 1.250 € (payment in September)

  • Qualification, experience: graduates, graduates and graduates in Medicine or Nursing. Persons with a foreign university qualification equivalent to the previous ones or who in their country have legal attributions for health care.
  • Modules of the master: The student must have passed Modules 1 and 2..

* Those students with homologated degree in Spain, will be able to carry out practices, otherwise can only be an observer.

Practicum in ICU


Minimum 3 weeks in general ICU and the possibility of expanding to monographic ICU.

Emergency Practicum


Optional practicum in emergency departments.

Emergency Prehospital Practicum


In Emergency Systems of Barcelona and Madrid.

Dedication: 20 h / week during the teaching period.

OBLIGATORY:

The student will choose a minimum of 3 Practicum rotations, of which he / she will always include one rotation in the general ICU and another in an emergency unit.

OPTIONAL:

You can complete your practice with rotations in monographic ICU, prehospital services (Bombers of Barcelona, Bombers of Generalitat, Central Coordination) or emergency services.

There is also the possibility of carrying out additional weeks of rotation at international level in hospitals of Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic).

  • Realization of the precursor activities required by each entity.
  • Attendance at compulsory practices in UCI and SEM and attendance at optional practices.
  • Realization of field work on a clinical case.
