The Master’s Degree in Critical Illness and Emergencies is a continuous, interdisciplinary training program aimed at various professionals in the field of Health Sciences, focused on perfecting the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to care for the acutely ill patient. It is an interuniversity master’s degree, awarded by the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Madrid.
The Master has a modular structure, with 120 ECTS credits, and is taught in face-to-face and blended modalities. The acquisition of competences is carried out under a continuum of assistance for the critically ill patient, helping the professional and the team: initial approach, stabilization, maintenance, definitive treatment and recovery, from the different perspectives in pre-hospital emergencies, emergencies and intensive care in their different disciplines.
This Master’s degree provides useful professional skills for work in the following fields: · Intensive Care Units · Prehospital Emergency Services · Emergency and Emergency Management and Coordination Centers · Emergency Services of Primary and Specialized Care · Activities of Humanitarian Cooperation and Assistance.
Program led by the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Madrid. Institutions of teaching and clinical excellence participate, both nationally and internationally. The delivery language is Spanish.

It includes courses accredited by external entities in specialized subjects (CCR, AHA, SEMICYUC, SCCM, SEM, Hospitals) to direct the curriculum to your particular needs.
This program combines theoretical teaching, both face-to-face and online, activities, communication and debate with the teaching staff, using the most advanced technologies.
Training with Simulation
Simulation as a tool for the training of technical skills, decision making in clinical context and relational skills for solving team crisis, guaranteeing quality and safety.
Tutored practices with reference professionals, in national and international hospital and prehospital institutions, in a learning experience of teamwork in a modern environment.
Until now, health training typically followed the teaching model “see once, do once, teach once”, using real patients to train and improve the skills of professionals. However, this traditional and conservative approach endangers the safety of patients and, sometimes, does not provide adequate learning.
The objective of this Master program is to apply the concepto of “learning circle” to help the student achieve a quality and safer clinical practice. Therefore, the student begins acquiring theoretical knowledge, while acquiring skills in the realization of techniques and training in clinical decision making in simulated contexts. Subsequently, the student focuses on communication skills and teamwork to reflect on human error, apply their knowledge, skills and attitudes to the care practice, complementing their training with the completion of specialized courses. Finally, he will develop his scientific skills with the aim of applying the evidence to clinical practice by designing a research project.
