The
teaching and research experience of the University of Barcelona
in the field of cultural management started in 1989, which has allowed the
creation of an elaborate educational curriculum, fully recognized at an
international scale. A great effort is put into structuring program contents, collecting
experiences and documentation, developing simulations exercises and didactic
methods to stimulate intellectual curiosity and common sense. The goal of this
collective work is to obtain a quality education program to incorporate
competent professionals to the centre of the various institutions, projects,
centres and cultural services.
During
the 2012-2013 academic year, the Masters is in an evaluation process by the
“Agencia de Calidad Universitaria” (University Quality Agency). This process, which
is done every six years, ensures the quality of official university teachings
and it allows the updating the education program to adapt it to current
challenges. For this reason, in the Master´s Structure section, the lectures
that are going to come into effect for the 2013-2014 academic year will be
described, but until their final approval the lectures in the master’s
curriculum correspond to the 2012-2013 academic year.
The
master is taught mostly in Catalan, but many of the lectures are taught in
Spanish or English (see teaching plan).
STUDENT PROFILE
The
action framework of the cultural manager is conditioned by the reality of the
culture and its institutions in a particular territory and sector, and is especially
dependent on the grade of government intervention (direct or indirect) in cultural
organizations, the development of private entrepreneurship, the scale of the
cultural projects and the existent networks in and outside of the
organizations.
As
an answer to those challenges, the Official Master´s in Cultural Management
leads to the following professional careers:
- Manager, technical or service manager, public
amenities and cultural projects, public or private.
- Programmer and/or producer of
cultural events (artistic, heritage, cultural tourism…).
- Territorial cultural manager.
- Programmer and promoter of
intercultural dynamics and sociocultural activities.
