The university master's degree Cultural Management
This Master's degree course in Cultural Management is offered within the University of Barcelona's official postgraduate program in Cultural Management and Heritage, and is designed to provide specialist training for private and public sector professionals in the fields of cultural management, administration and mediation. Participants will learn the skills they need to work in cultural projects of general application and in specific sectors such as the fields of audiovisual media and printed books, the dramatic arts, music, heritage services and visual arts.
In society today, cultural management personnel must take on board a series of considerations concerning the reality of our cultural arena and its institutions, the traditional roles of public intervention in private business management, the limited dimensions of most cultural projects and the importance of interpersonal relations both within and beyond the sphere of the various cultural associations and initiatives. With almost twenty years of experience in postgraduate teaching in this field, the staff at the University of Barcelona have brought together an internationally recognised program to meet professionals' needs, tailoring the contents of the different subject areas so as to better represent the realities of the professional world, collating practical case histories and important texts in the literature of cultural management and designing simulation exercises and teaching methods that encourage students to pursue areas of personal interest and to acquire a reasoned understanding of the field in general: in short, the teaching staff have made the program a means by which participants may receive the quality training enabling them to work in the different institutions, projects and services that comprise this country's professional cultural sector.
In particular, the Master's degree in Cultural Management is designed to prepare students for professional practice in the following areas:
- The management, administration and technical organization of public or private sector cultural services and projects.
- The programming and production of cultural events in the areas of the arts, heritage and cultural tourism.
- Community management and cultural mediation.
- The programming and promotion of socio-cultural activities.
