In the academic year 2006-07 the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the University of Barcelona (UB) reached an agreement to organise the combined Master’s degree in History of Science: Science, History and Society. The program forms part of the Official Postgraduate Program in Science at the UAB and the Official Postgraduate Program in Philosophy at the UB and is the first official master’s degree in History of Science to be offered in Spain. The programme develops from the Inter-University Doctorate in History of Science, which was awarded the prestigious «Mention of Quality» by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. Lecturers are drawn from both participant universities and other collaborating institutions and have extensive experience in teaching and research at postgraduate level. Courses will also be given by visiting lecturers of international renown.

The Master’s degree in History of Science: Science, History and Society provides an introduction to study and research in History of Science that enables students to understand science, technology and medicine as historical phenomena.

At the University of Barcelona, the Master will be taught by the Faculty of Philosophy (Department of Logic, History and Philosophy of Science), the Faculty of Philology (Department of Semitic Languages, Area of Arabian and Islamic Studies) and the Faculty of Mathematics (Department of Probability, Logic and Statistics). General coordination of the program is carried out by the CEHIC (Centre for History of Science Studies, UAB).
