Natural and artificial water systems contain a variety of microorganisms including pathogens. Whose control is essential to have a water microbiologically safe for humans. In this context the aim of our research is the detection and quantification of pathogens and indicators (or index) in different type of waters. As well as the analysis of the relationships established with the biotic and abiotic factors in their environment, factors that favor or limit the presence of pathogens in water.

The work currently includes several lines of research: Study of the presence and persistence of pathogenic bacteria such as Legionella and Campylobacter in different types of water. The characterization of microbial communities, bacteria and protists, in water treatment plants. And the analysis and modeling of the survival of microorganisms against natural or artificial inactivation processes include electrochemical methods.
