Two of the symbols in the logo are conventional: the M for museum and the four bars of the Catalan flag. The third is based on the secret writing of the old alchemists. It is one of the signs that represented the fifth essence, and stood for the ultimate goal of pharmacy and pharmacists: the search for the most valuable material of all, the active component of the old teachings, the unattainable elixir of eternal youth.
