This project investigates the linguistic ideologies and behaviors declared in families ethnolinguistically mixed and homogenous linguistic community or European averages, which is the same, the project studies the effects of policies and language policies in the private sector. To do this we chose new territories, four of the Iberian Peninsula (Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Valencian Country and Galicia) and five medium-linguistic communities from the rest of Europe: Netherlands, Czech Republic, Denmark, Lithuania and Estonia.

Each of these areas has a history of sociolinguistics specific subjective ethnolinguistic vitality, and is characterized by the emergence of English, and the presence of a dominant language at the same time as the Netherlands, Denmark, Czech Republic, for an intense contact and linguistic conflicts internal to Estonia with the Estonian and Russian, and by contact with the Spanish-speaking countries such as Catalan-speaking countries and Galicia. The comparative analysis of these areas will build an explanatory theory of language use and choice of intergenerational language transmission.

The main research tool is essentially open-ended interview semi directed at adult member of these families, all with a child of school age. By analyzing and comparing these interviews the project aims to understand the evolution and general sociolinguistic construct a measuring instrument that allows to compare the pressures on intergenerational language transmission.
