El Departament de Psicologia Bàsica està ubicat dins la Facultat de Psicologia al Campus de la Vall d'Hebron. Es va constituir l'any 1986, com a conseqüència de la supressió de l'antic Departament de Psicologia General. El Departament de Psicologia Bàsica està definit per l'àrea de coneixement del mateix nom, i té com a objectius docents i de recerca l'estudi dels processos psicològics (percepció, atenció, memòria, aprenentatge, llenguatge i comunicació, raonament, motivació i emoció) i la història de la psicologia.
