In most countries, seismic hazard analyses (SHA) are still only based on historical and instrumental seismicity. However, this is insufficient to describe the seismic hazard especially in slowly deforming areas, where very dangerous faults may have remained silent for long periods and, hence, hidden to human perception. Ideally, historical and instrumental seismicity records should be complemented with paleoseismological datasets to constrain the seismic hazard of a given region.

Our main objectives are to:

  1. explore the impact on probabilistic seismic hazard analisis (SHA) and Time-dependent models using, paleoseismic data and using a system approach in the Eastern Betics Shear Zone.
  2. produce more realistic seismic hazard maps to be considered in the constraining of seismic codes, such as the inclusion of the EUROCODE8 in the Spanish code.
