Rent a room with peace of mind

LLoguer solidari

The Social Projects division of CatalunyaCaixa has launched the programme, an affordable accommodation scheme aimed at :

•  People or families with a spare room who are looking to secure extra income.

•  Young people (particularly university students) who are seeking an affordable solution for moving away from home.

CatalunyaCaixa's Social Projects division has signed a cooperation agreement with four Catalan public universities based in Barcelona or its metropolitan area : the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Barcelona , the Technical University of Catalonia and Pompeu Fabra University .

If you are a student looking for accommodation close to the university, this is your chance to rent a room at an affordable price.

If you are a member of the university's teaching, research, administration or service staff and have a room you want to let, this is your chance to secure extra income.

Conditions for students applicants:

Participants commit to a written agreement that underlines the need for mutual respect and sets out the rights and obligations of each party.

Rooms are rented for between €175 and €250 per month, depending on the type of room and property. Since rooms are rented at below-market prices, the landlord is entitled to ask the tenant for an additional social contribution (such as helping with shopping, doing housework, tutoring, etc.). Both parties agree to provide one month's notice if they wish to change or terminate the agreement.

How to take part

Applications can be processed at the CatalunyaCaixa Social Projects main office , at a CX Espai office (CatalunyaCaixa's network of clubs) or at any CatalunyaCaixa branch . An online form is also available. Applications can be made throughout the year and will be dealt with in order of receipt, taking into account: The current living arrangements, health and lifestyle of the prospective landlord and the general state of the room offered. The personal and academic situation of the prospective tenant, the period for which accommodation is required and the type of social contribution offered.

Rights and obligations of participants

Landlords will receive the rent during the first five calendar days of each month. They are also entitled to one month's deposit payable when the contract is signed. Landlords are entitled to request the social contribution detailed in the contract. Landlords undertake to respect the right to privacy of their tenants. Landlords who do not own the property in question mush have permission to sub-let the room.

Tenants are entitled to their own room in the property and the use of other facilities (kitchen, washing machine, etc.) at an affordable price. These rights must be stipulated in the contract, which is signed by both parties. Tenants agree to pay the rent in the agreed period at the beginning of each month.

In the event of non-payment, the tenant will forfeit the deposit and must vacate the accommodation.
