The UB accomodation programme Viure i Conviure

The accommodation program 'Viure i Conviure' was launched in September 1997, the result of an agreement signed between different public and private institutions in Catalonia, including the University of Barcelona.

If you're a student looking for a home away from home near your university faculty or school, you can now live in at the home of an elderly person or couple on the program 'Viure i Conviure': the answer to your accommodation problems and an enjoyable experience in itself.

Both the university student participating on the program and the elderly person or couple whose homes they share shall sign an agreement detailing questions of mutual respect and establishing the rights and obligations of each party.

Conditions for student applicants:

  • to be no older than 30 years of age, for undergraduate students, and 35 years of age, for postgraduate students;
  • to have no job in Barcelona;
  • to have no place of residence in Barcelona.

Papers to be presented:

  • one photocopy of your enrolment in the UB;
  • one photocopy of your national identity card or passport;
  • one photograph (passport size);
  • the completed application form, which is available either at the Secretary's Office for Students and Teaching Staff at your UB faculty or school, or as a Word document you can download from the website of the bank La Caixa de Catalunya (Word document)

Terms of the agreement:

Those participating in the program must be ready to provide the elderly person or couple with company during the period of the academic year. On a day-to-day basis, this means that the student must arrive at the home of the elderly person or couple by no later than 10.30 pm on weekdays and on Sunday. Finally, students shall not be obliged to provide the elderly person or couple with company on Saturday, or on Sunday until 10.30 pm.
The student shall not pay any form of rent for this accommodation, and shall also be entitled to a grant of 450 € or the part of this total sum that is proportional to the period of time for which the student has signed up on the program. This grant will be awarded annually, in one payment of 225 € in February and one payment of 225 € in June, by La Caixa de Catalunya.
