Language Resource Program
This program describes current language policy and language use at the UB, and helps students from outside the Catalan-speaking area to learn enough Catalan to be able to participate fully in university life. The process is as follows:
- The UB sends information on language use to the universities with which it holds exchange program agreements, and also information on the on-line sources available for learning Catalan before students come to Catalonia.
- The UB centres send a letter of welcome to each student, containing information on language use and encouraging them to register for intensive Catalan language courses before the start of the academic year.
- At the Exchange Office (the Oficina d'Acollida) at their UB centre, students will be given information on the Catalan courses offered throughout the academic year. These courses include an information session describing features of the language. Students will be given a university conversation guide, information on language resources, and the specialized multilingual glossaries for their particular area of study. They may also use the UB's self-access language centres.
- Students may participate in language exchanges with Catalan-speaking students, usually from the same centre, and in the extra activities organized for them, such as outings, guided visits, and parties. They can also consult Cultural Barcelona, a link that suggests interesting places to visit and things to do in and around Barcelona.
