III Workshop on Transport Economics

The Institut d’Economia de Barcelona (IEB) will celebrate the 3rd Workshop on Transport Economics the next 27th of May in the room “Sala de Graus” of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona. The workshop includes three presentations by prestigious academics within the area of environmental transport economics. The workshop ends up with a round table that analyses the issue of aviation and emission trading systems. In this round table there will be representatives from the airline industry, public institutions and private firms. The deadline for registration is May 23rd 2013. Joint Hispano/German Actions – Call for applications

The Fundación Universidad.es (UNIE) and the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) has opened a new edition of the program Joint Hispano – German Actions for the next 2014. This edition is considering the mobility of research groups in both countries working on a joint project with self-funding. The deadline for applying is May 25th 2013. UB Economics scholarships for Master and PhD students

UB Economics has opened a new edition of scholarships for master and PhD students. Master students can apply for the UB Economics MSc TA Scholarship HERE before 28th June 2013. PhD students can apply for the UB Economics PhD TA Scholarships HERE before 28th June.

Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (GSE) summer schools

The Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (GSE) will held different summer schools in economics. There are four different summer schools: Barcelona Labor Economics Summer School (from 8th to 12th July); Barcelona Banking Summer School (from 1st to 12th July); Barcelona Microeconometrics Summer School (from 1st to 12th July); and Barcelona Macroeconometrics Summer School (from 1st to 12th July).

The summer school will take place at the Ciutadella campus of the GSE and the courses are taught in English. The deadline for applying is 31st May. More information about the courses, fees, and schedules can be found HERE.

The 2nd Development Week. University of Navarra.

The Navarra Center for International Development celebrates the Second Development Week (D-Week) between June 3rd and June 7th 2013 in Pamplona. This event will offer a course in the Causes and Conse­quences of Civil Con­flict and the Keynote Speech, given by Oded Stark, will address the relation between globalization and social distress. XXXVIII Spanish Economic Association (SAEe) Symposium – Call for papers

The Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo are hosting the XXXVIII Spanish Economic Association (SAEe) Symposium on December 12-14 in Santander, Spain. The Symposium is the annual conference of the Spanish Economic Association and brings together experts in all fields of economics every year in December. The Spanish Economic Association Job Market, intended for PhD graduates in economics, also meets during the Symposium. The submission deadline is 10 June 2013 for Contributed Sessions and 16 September 2013 for Job Market Sessions. Further information HERE.

V Workshop on Fiscal Federalism

V WORKSHOP ON FISCAL FEDERALISM: The political economy of decentralization. Decentralization of the delivery of public services has been an important part of public sector reform in many countries. The arguments typically used by governments, international agencies and donors have been mostly of economic and technical nature. The political economy approach can complement this diagnosis and advice work by predicting the effect of decentralization reforms in real political and institutional settings, highlighting the practical pitfalls of particular reform designs implemented, and helping understand the motives that drive politicians to transfer responsibilities and resources to lower levels of government. Manuscripts must be submitted by email (ieb.workshop@ub.edu) in PDF format until 2013 April 2nd. CEMFI Summer School

A new edition of the CEMFI Summer School will take place from August 26th to September 13th 2013 in Madrid. This year’s edition includes nine independent courses which will be held during a week from the end of July to the beginning of September.

The courses will be taught in English and will take place from Monday to Friday during three and a half hours per day. A certificate of attendance will be delivered to the participants.

Annual meeting of the Association of Southern European Economic Theorists (ASSET) – Call for papers

The next annual meeting of the Association of Southern European Economic Theorists (ASSET) will take place in Bilbao, Spain, November 7-9, 2013.
The conference will be organized by the Department of Foundations of Economic Analysis I, University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU. The conference requests papers in all areas of Economics and submissions from economists not affiliated with the ASSET network are also welcome. The submission deadline is June 15, 2013.

RecerCaixa Call for Research Projects 2013

A new edition of the RecerCaixa Call for Research Projects has been published. It will cover research projects developed by researchers in Catalan universities and research centers. In this edition, l’Obra Social la Caixa will put aside 1.800.000 euros for the selected projects. The deadline for applications is June 16th 2013. More information can be found HERE.

Thomas J Alexander Fellowship – Call for Proposals until June 21st

The OECD Directorate for Education has launched the Thomas J. Alexander Fellowship Programme. The programme seeks to develop and support improvements in education quality and equity, particularly in emerging economies.  Ideal fellows are expected to have experience with quantitative research methods and large-scale surveys and have articles published in scientific journals. Deadline for the next call for proposal is the 21st of June. 7th Annual Conference on the Political Economy of International Organizations – Call for papers

The University of Princeton in the USA has launched a call for papers for the 7th Annual Conference on the Political Economy of International Organizations, to be held on January 16th to 18th, 2014. The conference brings together economists and political scientists to address political-economy issues related to international organizations. Second ISTR PhD Seminar at the University of Muenster in Germany

The ISTR will celebrate the second ISTR PhD Seminar at the University of Muenster in Germany the 20-22 July 2014.

The aim of the workshop is to provide doctoral students with the opportunity to receive extensive intellectual and methodological advice on their doctoral research. The seminar is limited to a group of (up to) 50 doctoral students. Applicants must be members of ISTR and register and attend the conference.

IEB’s Report on Fiscal Federalism

The Institut d’Economia de Barcelona (IEB) will present the Reports on Fiscal Federalism the next May 22nd 2013 at 12.00 hours in Madrid under the title Economic crisis and recentralization. Conference about Contact Singapore and the Singapore University of Technology and Design

The Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona will held a conference about Contact Singapore and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), which is associated to the MIT, the next May 28th from 10:30 to 12 hours.

The SUTD is interested in finding PhD candidates in the last year of their doctoral studies in different fields to invite them to continue their research and academic career at the SUTD. The conference, in charge of professor Chong Tow Chong (Dean of the SUTD), will evaluate the professional opportunities related to the teaching and research at the university.

XI ELSNIT Annual Conference – Call for papers

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), through the Integration and Trade Sector (INT), the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL) and the Office in Europe (ORP/ EUR), has launched a New Call for Papers of the Euro-Latin Study Network on Integration and Trade (ELSNIT) for its XI ELSNIT Annual Conference under the title “Internationalization of SMEs” which will be celebrated in Barcelona Spain the October 17-18. University of Mauritius – Call for Research Grants

The WTO Chair at the University of Mauritius has opened the 2013 edition of the Call for Research Proposals for Young African Researchers bidding for small research grants. They welcome the proposals of young African researchers (not more than 40 years of age).
A maximum of three grants not exceeding US$ 4,000 will be awarded. The deadline for submitting proposals is May 15th 2013. Selected researchers will be notified by June 15th 2013. Proposals should be submitted electronically to the WCP-UoM Co- Chairs (Dr V Sannassee (rvsan@uom.ac.mu) and Dr B Seetanah (b.seetanah@uom.ac.mu).
