King Martin the Humane

King Martin the Humane established an Estudi General of Medicine in premises at the Santa Eulàlia Gate in the area of La Boqueria in 1401 and brought in prestigious doctors, such as Pere Descoll. A Faculty of Arts was added to this Estudi General of Medicine in 1402. From this time onwards, university studies in Barcelona received the name Estudi General of Medicine and Arts.
