The Barcelona Royal Military Academy of Mathematics, dedicated to training officers hoping to enter the Royal Corps of Engineers, was one of the most important Spanish educational centres in the eighteenth century. The Academy opened its doors in a building at the Ciutadella and, in 1752, moved to the priory of Sant Agustí Vell, in Carrer del Comerç, after the Augustinians moved to a new priory and once the Sant Agustí Vell building had been adapted for new uses.
