Final site of the University

Emplazamiento de la Nueva Universidad de Barcelona, Elias Rogent, 20 November 1862.

Although Elias Rogent did present an initial design locating the new university building on the site of the former Convent of Carme, it was finally decided to place it in the Eixample, on a plot suited to its requirements. The final decision included two blocks of Cerdà's grid and placed the University in the area of contact between the old district and the Eixample. Plaça de la Universitat was the urban element linking the building and the historic centre.
